Well, here we are again . It is that time of year when everyone is either feeling obligated to or told to get their flu shot. Let’s forget a moment that the current evolution of the flu shot is only 60% effective in healthy adults. Let’s forget that where ever we go, that we are confronted with signs regarding flu shots (What’s that? $25?). I mean, all I did was walk into WalMart to get a gallon of milk. Let’s get down to the real issue here.
The flu vaccine is just not for everyone, even though they will be more than happy to inject you all.
Here is a message from the Center from Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm) :
While everyone should get a flu vaccine each flu season, it’s especially important that the following groups get vaccinated either because they are at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for people at high risk for developing flu-related complications:
- Pregnant women
- Children younger than 5, but especially children younger than 2 years old
- People 50 years of age and older
- People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
- People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
- People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
- Health care workers
- Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
- Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
Here is my problem with this statement. If everyone were to consistently take the flu vaccine every year, would we not then be forced to continue taking this vaccine because our bodies now cannot fight off any variation of this virus without artificial assistance? Have you ever noticed that people who regularly take medicines or vaccines for various common ailments such as colds, allergies, or the flu are often the ones who consistently have issues with these sicknesses? Have you noticed that the people who have allowed their own natural immune system fight these ailments have eventually fought through and have found themselves to be sick much less than the last group mentioned? Have you ever considered that by creating the next best vaccine or medicine to these ailments that we are inadvertently creating what will eventually one day be a super bug that will be immune to vaccines until one happens to be discovered years down the road? Are we already seeing signs of this happening with bugs such as H1N1?Of course, there are always exceptions. Those obvious exceptions are listed by the CDC (1-6 above). In the case of serious illness, everyone should get medical treatment.
I remember when I used to play football as a young kid with my friends. When someone fell and skinned their knee…they would go to the nearest water hose, rinse it off, and continue playing. Perhaps now we are supposed to wash thoroughly with warm soapy water, apply ointment, apply band aid, diligently watch for infection, call your family doctor (just in case), and refrain from having a life. Seriously now, if you do not allow your body to be exposed to anything, your body will not be experienced in fighting off any of these nasty illnesses. The current process and evolution of vaccines and medicines in this world are also creating new and improved illnesses. In short, in my opinion, the more people take part in these vaccines, the worse off we all are. When European man came to the Americas, it was well documented that they brought with them illnesses that had yet to be encountered by the Native Americans. They suffered devastating losses because their bodies were not able to fight off these unknown viral invaders. Now, with the world in much closer quarters, we are almost forced to deal with all these potential dangers on a daily basis. So, we could take a vaccine or we could allow our body to fight off these invaders until medical attention is warranted.
By the way, have you noticed the consistent rise in Glaxo Smith Kline, Baxter International, and Sanofi-Aventis stock around this time of year? Could there be a connection between flu shots, the CDC, Baxter International, Glaxo Smith Kline, Sanofi-Aventis, and our world governments? No, no, couldn’t be. They are all just working for the betterment of mankind. I mean forget the profit…right?
